About This Place

Nestled in the charming village of Hough-on-the-Hill, The Brownlow Arms is a distinguished country inn that masterfully combines the warmth of a traditional pub with the refinement of fine dining, alongside comfortable bed & breakfast and serviced accommodation options. Situated just off Grantham Rd, this hidden gem is an ideal retreat for travelers and locals alike, seeking an authentic and memorable countryside experience.

At the heart of The Brownlow Arms lies its acclaimed restaurant, where the menu is a celebration of thoughtfully crafted dishes that showcase British culinary excellence with subtle international influences. The Pan Fried Chicken Supreme, served with a wild mushroom, tarragon, and pea fricassee alongside delicate Dauphine potatoes, entices with its rich layers of flavor and tender juiciness. Seafood lovers will be drawn to the Oven Baked Whole Cornish Sole, perfectly paired with spinach, Jersey Royals, and a prawn and caper beurre blanc that dances on the palate with elegance and freshness.

For those intrigued by bold, vibrant tastes, the Asian Style Pork Belly is a standout, featuring succulent meat glazed with sesame seeds and matched with sweet and sour peppers, spring onion, edamame beans, and fragrant rice, creating a harmonious explosion of textures and flavors. Vegetarians will appreciate the Feta, Asparagus, and Pea Risotto, complemented by a crisp courgette and fennel salad — a dish that balances creaminess and brightness in every spoonful.

No fine dining experience here is complete without indulging in one of the exquisite desserts. The Banoffee Baked Alaska, with caramelized banana and a delicate meringue exterior, offers a dramatic and delicious conclusion to your meal. Meanwhile, the Assiette Of Lemon Miniature Posset, White Chocolate Blondie, and Pine Nut Parfait play with contrasts of tart, sweet, and nutty, leaving a lingering satisfaction. Each dessert is thoughtfully plated, inviting both the eyes and the taste buds to savor the moment.

The Brownlow Arms is more than just its food. It is steeped in a welcoming atmosphere that feels both grand yet incredibly intimate. The beautifully preserved old country house interior, accented by cozy details and a fabulous beer garden, sets the perfect scene for any occasion, whether a quiet dinner or a lively gathering. Guests consistently praise the attentive and considerate staff, who go above and beyond — as one repeat visitor shared, they even prepared breakfast early to accommodate an early start.

Speaking of breakfast, visitors rave about the beyond-excellent morning offerings and supremely comfortable beds, making The Brownlow Arms not just a dining destination but a truly restful escape. Its convenient location near the A1 and A17 makes it a perfect stopover that doesn’t compromise on charm or quality.
